About Owen

Owen Barder is an economist working on international development issues at the Center for Global Development.  He blogs about development and presents the Development Drums podcast.

Before working in Ethiopia, Owen was a British civil servant. He was Private Secretary for Economic Affairs to Prime Minister Tony Blair, and before that Private Secretary to two British Finance Ministers.    He has worked in the British Government in H M Treasury, the Cabinet Office and the Department for International Development. He also worked for two years for the South African government when Nelson Mandela was President.

Owen is a keen runner, with a best time under 3 hours.  He is a member of the Serpentine Running Club in London.
